This course is designed to cover the critical aspects of retrofitting new systems, focusing on best practices that are often overlooked and lead to premature system failure and callbacks. The training emphasizes communication with the salesperson and homeowner to ensure accurate installations and happy clients.

Throughout the course, students will develop confidence and learn essential installation techniques, reducing the need for extended field training and minimizing potential bad habits. They will complete tasks using common materials and perform both up-flow and horizontal installations.

The curriculum includes training in electrical skills, refrigerant charging, recovery, evacuation, brazing, pressure testing, and basic HVAC operations.

Day 1: Introduction and System Operations

  • Understanding components and system operations

Day 2: Electrical Skills and Refrigerant Recovery

  • Safe practices in electrical systems
  • Refrigerant recovery procedures
  • Drains and drain pan installation
  • Line sets and brazing techniques

Day 3: Pressure Testing and Install Design

  • Pressure testing and system evacuation procedures
  • Equipment verification and quality checks
  • Introduction to system design for proper installation

Day 4: Hands-on System Installation

  • Installation of systems in up-flow and horizontal orientations
  • Start-up operations and system testing
  • Duct materials and duct sealing techniques

Day 5: System Verification and Communication Skills

  • Verification of system operations for efficiency
  • Airflow comprehension and optimization
  • A.R.E. process for installers (Customer-focused, Accuracy, Reliability, Efficiency)
  • Effective homeowner communication strategies
